
Sapphires are found in the entire rainbow of hues, but padparadschas, with their unique color, are the only subset of sapphires known by their own name. The most valuable of all sapphires, the padparadscha's name is derived from the Sinhalese word for lotus blossom-a bloom that shares the same pinkish-orange color. Gubelin and the Swiss Gemological Institute certify this gem as Ceylon in origin, underscoring its superb quality. While some padparadschas reflect deeper and more fiery tones, this lovely gemstone showcases the beautiful sunrise hue displayed by some of the finest padparadschas. The gem displays the orangey-pink hue for which padparadschas are coveted. Then, after a slight split shank section, pave diamonds run down each shoulder to the three quarter mark, leaving a sizing section, just in case.A magnificent 10.55-carat padparadscha sapphire, the rarest of all of Ceylon's treasured gems, dazzles in this beautiful ring. Framing the center stone, there are three marquise diamonds on each side, set East-West to point towards the center sapphire. Underneath the center, there are four tiny diamonds adding extra sparkle to the rose gold basket. There are many different diamond elements on this ring's design that work together to create a truly unique piece. Claw prongs hold the center stone in place. The client chose to have the basket of the ring cast in rose gold to better accentuate the colors of the sapphire, while the rest of the ring is cast in platinum to let the icy diamonds sparkle. The name means “aquatic lotus blossom”, and this ring's center is truly a unique gem because of it's 3.38 carat size, cut, and color. These specific sapphires sometimes have uneven coloring, with spots of yellow and pink along with the salmon color.
